Planned Breeding Announcement 2008.

To Everyone I have met, written and/or spoken to over the last few years, I would like to announce the “Planned Breeding” that has taken place.

My interest in studying Riesenschnauzer pedigrees began in 1997.

The last few years evolved with several people studying Riesenschnauzer Pedigrees with the same goal in mind.

This direction for us has taken many hours of research, hashing over ideas of what the pedigree talks about in print.   Then pursuing next stages ie: work ethic, health status, certificates/titles/ratings of each dog/bitch.    Then questioning what if we do this and this happens or what if we do that and this happens….

This Direction is to preserve the History of our Breed by opening up the gene pool with Quality Dogs/Bitches.

Brier Cross Kennel's  main breeding program focus is to not Double -Up on Ali v Hilbort.   In this particular combination, there is Ali on one side, the dam’s.

Our goal is to expand the already shrinking gene pool.   This will take many years by many people putting in an enormous and costly effort to do so.

I wanted to share this experience with you.   I will not post anything on the website until we have confirmed the pregnancy through ultrasound.

I want to Special Thank;  Renate, Bonnie Sue, Chris, Irina, Mario, Matvey,  Martha, Robin, Robin, Siem, Suzannah, Tini, Wilfred, Yadi.,  and my Husband for being understanding.

Renate Rank, owner of the stud dog “Bandit”, resides in Germany.  We have discussed DNA procedures, collecting semen from Bandit, testing, freezing, and shipping it to the U.S.

Our plan “A” was live coverage.   This depended on Berlyn’s heat cycle timing.   There were a few block out dates that it was not possible for Renate and Bandit to fly to the U.S.    The back-up plan “B” was surgical AI.

The stud dog, Bandit, needed to be collected.   He did not have stored semen.

Next needed was special permission from PSK Breedwarden.  We did not want to violate any PSK rules.  By PSK/FCI rules it is only allowed to do an AI if both
parents have been bred naturally at least once before. We needed the ok from the PSK.  Renate contacted the PSK head breedwarden Katharina Keil, she said she has no problem with AI for this breeding and asked for
the details of sire and damn for her files.

Renate proceeded to inquire about costs for going through the process of collecting, freezing, thawing, testing, shipping frozen semen with the University Vet Hospital.

The Process began with Renate driving approximately 45 minutes each way to the Reproduction Clinic in Germany a few times attempting to collect Semen…

…I was and still am working with the AKC in the area of DNA Testing procedures with dogs from other countries. This will allow the litter to be registered with AKC.

The stud dog "Bandit" and his owner, Renate, took a week out of their lives to fly here to the U.S. from Germany.

From my home in Cape Coral to Miami it is a 3+hour drive.
Again, many Thanks to Robin for picking up Renate and Bandit and for the return trip to the Airport.

Berlyn came into heat January 31st / February 1st.

Progesterone Testing began Berlyn's 6th Day of her heat cycle.   Continued by 8th day.

2 Progesterone Tests were taken, not much different than this bitch’s first time with progesterone testing followed w/surgical implant in May 2006.

In 2006 the surgery took place on the 10th day of Berlyn's heat cycle.
